My love for computers started back in 1987 with a Tandy computer.
Later, I moved up to a 8086 computer running DOS. From there I moved
on to a Packard Bell running the Windows 3.1 operating system then to
an Acer (emerald green to be exact) running Windows 95. The computers
changed but the love remained.
It was with the Acer where I experienced my first gaming experience
online, playing hearts against others and chatting during play. As I
first really began to tinker and play with operating systems at the
Win 3.1 stage, I learned how to fix computers by messing up my own.
It was through these techniques that I learned to troubleshoot and
repair computers and developed a real love for them.
I have been working on computers for 19 years now, both professionally
and personally. My first career was in accounting, and many times
that was the job that paid the bills while I did computer
repair on the side. In 2003 I received a degree in
Information Technology from Kaplan College. As an adult learning the
book version of the"fast-changing" IT world, I realized that my "hands-on" knowledge had taught me to "learn how to learn" and this far exceeded the knowledge I gained from the degree.
On the left are my two grand kids. Yes, I'm old enough to have grand kids. I'm hoping that my daughter will raise them to be the future Geek Girls and maybe someday they will be fixing your computer! |
